2173 Hawkins Street – Commercial Warehouse Space
Argos Real Estate Advisors approached us with the idea to do a 1 day “pop-up” design event for one of their commercial warehouse properties to showcase the properties’ possibilities to their clients. Coincidentally the date for the event fell on the same day than earth day.
designbar came up with a restaurant concept called “earth cafe”. The general idea was to bring the outside in and create a feeling of being surrounded by nature and natural materials, while introducing a fun entertainment environment that didn’t yet exist within the Charlotte portfolio of restaurant and bars.
For the event we logged in and installed about 15 large scale tree trunks. Together with Argos we further enhanced the experience by building hanging reclaimed tree log tables to give ample opportunity for dining and seating. We also built a reclaimed wood swing, which turned out to be a favorite for both young and adult visitors. To counter the array of natural materials we used translucent ghost chairs as seating and added a few bistro tables to add to the atmosphere. As a bar we used a beautiful old industrial steel frame and topped it with a piece of live edge walnut. The bar was overlooked by a large framed bar menu, painted in chalk board paint. Pops of color were created through the use of natural greens and LED powered lanterns that were installed throughout the venue. Industrial and retro signage added finishing touches to the overall design.
The earth cafe event was a great success and featured interactive art by Matt Moore and Matt Hooker; catering by the Tin Kitchen and Cocktails by Stephan Heubner.
