CONTINENTAL TIRE: PRODUCTION

Continental Tire of the Americas headquarters, located in Rock Hill SC, recently expanded their building by 16,000 sqft to accommodate their recent growth and the increasing number of employees. The design of the 7000 sqft of the common areas (cafeteria and outside covered and uncovered patio) was assigned to Monika Nessbach of Designbar LLC.

The project’s objective was to capture the client’s modern German roots while integrating the southern flair of the client’s headquarters location in South Carolina.

The interior space (cafeteria) of the project features a modern Wi-Fi-enabled dining area. Since the client is one of the top 4 tire manufacturers in the world, Designbar used the client’s own tire tread patterns (industrial, commercial, and passenger tires) when designing the flooring to personalize the space. To further continue the tread theme, a custom tread pattern stencil was used for the accent walls that were painted in the client’s corporate color.

As a feature, Designbar added a dramatic modular wall and worked with a custom sign company that created the client’s oversized logo that is LED-backlit in the same corporate color that was used for the accent walls. To even out the commercial ceiling design, Designbar added futuristic chandeliers from Fine Art Lamps and 3Form Varia Ecoresin acoustical panels. The furniture selection consists of modern tables of Segis (Italy) and a mixture of the classic white and orange Verner Panton chairs.

The exterior patio space features modern sectional lounge seating by Janus et Cie combined with river stone-shaped outdoor patina coffee tables by The Phillips Collection. The tread pattern design is continued outside and can be found in corporate colors on large zinc planters, which separate the different seating areas. The use of over-sized ceiling fans gives the area a southern feel. Wi-Fi is also available outside to enable employees to meet and work outside.
